Laying Blotter, the Soaking Method and why you shouldn't use it

I see many posts on several forums asking how to lay blotters, and it scares the hell out of me. Some 17 year old orders cheap RCs from china, does some basic math on the profit and there we go, potentially very dangerous chems being passed off as acid.

This post is aimed at you, the one laying blotter, i want you to think about it and do it the safe way, and to buyers, so you reconsider every time you buy "acid" from someone, there's a reason for that saying "if it's a bitter it's a spitter"

First of all, If you have no experience in general chemistry and lab procedures, please, please, please reconsider what you are planning on doing. You are almost certainly going to kill someone.

But ignorance is one thing and can be fixed with education, and that's where i'm trying to help. If you plan on laying blotter consider this:

- If you are not laying LSD, do you get how dangerous this shit is? Consider 25I-NBOMe for example, it has killed more people in the past year than LSD has in 60 years. It is several orders of magnitude more dangerous than LSD. Think for a second what several orders more dangerous means. There really is no room for screwing up. Now granted, I think it's getting safer...a couple of the early deaths were clearly massive overdoses, and it seems that insufflating liquid is on its way out as that appears to be responsible for many of the deaths. But this shit has been around for like 2 years and we don't know a goddamn thing about it. Read the erowid thread on nbome fatalities, read the wikipedia entry.

- You got 10000 blotters? Obviously you can't sell 10000 hits yourself, and you know damn well that someone, somewhere down the line is going to pass some of those blotters off as LSD. NBOMe (or whatever chemical) blotters should really clearly be labelled as such and I've seen a number of designs out there specifically for 25I.

- Please don't use the soaking method. A micro pipette costs about $70. You probably spent a ton of money already in your compound. You probably have enough to make 10,000 hits...you are going to make a ton of money, will you hesitate to shell out additional $70?

I personally love RCs...in some ways I prefer them to LSD. But I KNOW when I'm taking them that I am assuming a far greater risk than I would be if I were taking Acid. If some kid at some festival takes your "Super Mario" Blotters or whatever, thinking it's 'cid, which is not possible to OD on, he is not willingly assuming that risk. People passing RCs off as acid should, in my opinion, Overdose on it themselves

I know I won't be able to dissuade you from your quest, because, after all, it's FESTIVAL SEASON!!! WOHOOOO but give some serious thought to whether or not you're going to be able to sleep at night if someone dies because of you.

Anything active in the mcg range requires precision. The whole NBOMe series is somewhat scary .If you are really going to go ahead with this, I'm going to beg you to do two things.

- Don't buy any stupid ass blotters aimed at 13 year old kids, if you already have those then put them  up on ebay and find some 25i (or whatever chemical you're laying) blotters. check erowid. they're out there.

- DO NOT DIP YOUR BLOTTERS IN A SOLUTION!!!!! You must must must use a micropipette. It's going to be very time consuming, but it's essential. The downside with a hotspot on a tab of LSD is someone tripping a little harder or a couple of hours longer. The downside of a hot tab of 25i is convulsions, seizures and death.

DON'T FUCKING KILL PEOPLE FOR MONEY!

And Remember, If people like you don't take their shit seriously not only are kids going to die, but the media and the politicians are going to get all over RCs and start treating them like Bath Salts. NMS Labs (they do the bulk of testing for LE and Medical Examiners) is already including NBOMes in their Designer Drug and Bath Salt panel. More analog acts are on their way at the state level and they're going to start going after users when they tire of the futile game of whack-a-mole against suppliers. Dumb fucks like some of you reading this are going to ruin this "scene"...

I'm hoping others will read this post and maybe realize it's a bad risk/reward trade-off. Do you really think you're the only kid smart enough to see what a gram of nbome costs, see what a sheet of blotter costs, know what a dose goes for and realize that theres a massive margin here?

If any of this info is new to you, You should absolutely not under any circumstances be doing this. You do not have the training or experience. Please please please do not. Please sell your powder at a small profit here and let qualified people who know what they are doing and have the proper equipment do it.

After all this ranting, are you still going to lay blotters?

The Soaking Method:

In short it works like this, You get a shallow pan/dish, put a known amount of liquid with a known concentration, soak a blotter sheet, let it dry, do your math to find out how much each piece of blotter has

If you really must do it this way, here are a few tips:

You always have to measure the absorbancy of the paper by first saturating the blotter with your solvent of choice, meaning to the point where it is completely wet but is not dripping or sweating anything whatsoever. This is done by first weighing exactly how many milligrams the dry blotter weighs and subtracting that number from the wet/saturated weight. This gives you the weight of the maximum amount of solvent your paper can take.

How to proceed depends on whether you plan on measuring that calculated amount of solvent using equipment that can measure weight or volume very accurately.
If you go by volume you need the density of the solvent of choice. If you can't figure out how that works without me telling you, that is warning one just not to even try this. That is a general warning about this being entirely unsuited for novices.

Water is a poor choice of solvent. It is very cohesive meaning it clings to itself, making it relatively sticky and messy to work with. Also it doesn't evaporate quite as nicely as alcohols. If you cannot get high grade ethanol, then find isopropanol. If you are too lazy or unresourceful to find it I'd probably call warning number two.

Avoid using denatured alcohol which is denatured by making it bitter. Other denatured alcohol containes MEK. I also don't advise using methanol unless you knew exactly what else is in there, and it is still very risky considering all the challenges I am setting out in this post.
I'm not sure about acetone, I've wondered about it.

If you want to dissolve a lot of compound, the volume of your solution changes. It is pretty complex to account for that. Experimenting with it can cost a lot of compound, although you can always extract your compound back again from the blotter and evaporate to achieve a meaningful weight (weight of drug + some exact weight of solvent, but this time adjusted). There is another warning to be prepared for that pain in the ass shit. I don't know myself how significant this volume change is. I can't really calculate it using partial molars and it is unique for every combination of compound (solute) and solvent.

The part where most of you will go wrong: applying the solution evenly and cleanly to the paper. I suggest adding a coloring agent to track what you are doing better. Don't try a normal syringe, it won't work: it will wet the paper very unevenly and there is just no chance in hell that you can fix it by trying to get the paper to just suck it up. It is not incredibly absorbant like toilet paper, the application has to be very even. If you can't figure out how to overcome this, that is warning three, a huge one. I've actually heard of some professionally made blotter which gets applied in a small chamber where the solution is basically vaporized iirc. Another type used a micropipette array which I think is normally used for biochemistry.

Another challenge, and the final one, is the evaporation of the solvent. If you do this incorrectly I think convection / air currents can influence where the solvent evaporates mostly and everything in the paper might be getting blotted to those parts. I'm just gonna say for now that is warning four. My whole point is that you should never try making blotter yourself if you can't be a one-man inventor / online researcher who has the capabilities of overcoming all obstacles and complexities perfectly.

If you are laying a compound that is not dangerous like melatonin (although still not ideal if you get a huge dose), I guess you can experiment without a significant danger.

Conclusion, unless you can solve it all: JUST MAKE A VOLUMETRIC SOLUTION, DON'T TRY TO BE A HERO IT IS ENTIRELY UNNECESSARY - YOU COULD VERY WELL HURT OR KILL SOMEONE OR YOURSELF.

Bonus Tips If you are really going ahead with this project:

- Use very slightly more solvent than the paper will actually take to make sure it's evenly wet.
- Lay your blotters in a glass tray (baking tray will work if the inside is flat) and make sure its on a level surface, you don't want any pooling.
- After drying make an extra pass with only solvent, this will reduce hotspots (3rd hand information, not sure if this makes sense)
- There will be hotspots, the chemical will migrate from the center to the borders, so central blotters will be slightly less potent that the rest, which can be dangerous with some chems, and i cant stress this enough, that may be deadly
- If you can see tiny bits of the chemical on the blotter that means it is'nt evenly distributed, you may be using an inappropriate piece of paper that cant soak the desired amount, reduce dosage per blotter next time
- Some people let the sheets hanging in the dark to dry, that will make the liquid migrate to the bottom blotters, rotating partially solves this
- Specially in case of LSD, Expect to get very high with fumes, use gloves and small pincers, don´t let it touch your skin
- The Pan/Dish you used will contain some actives, use your solvent to dissolve most of this and save it in an appropriate container, you can let it dry a little to have a more concentrated solution, keep this for your personal use. This may be dangerous depending on ¨what you are laying in the blotter, keep in mind at all times the dangers of the substance you are using
- Cheap and quality micropippete here
